StudioLab user, Matthew Larsen (Lecturer in the Dept. of Religion and Cotsen Fellow in the Society of Fellows) is studying the history of incarceration, and the misunderstood geographies and “sense of place” of ancient, nearly unidentifiable prisons. He will be traveling to several of these ancient prison archaeological sites around the world over the next few years to try to capture this sense of space. In October, Matthew embarked on the first of these site surveys at the Cosa prison site, 2 hours north of Rome. He came prepared with the StudioLab’s 3D camera and photogrammetry software for capturing the 3D geometry of the site. This shows his first successful 3D scan!
