Thank you to everyone who came to our first meeting of Book Club and Boba! Led by Dr. Erin Flowers, we had a wonderful discussion about the first portion of The Six: The Untold Story of America’s First Women Astronauts by Loren Grush over boba and cookies. This story of the first women in space really exemplifies how the struggles of women in STEM affect us all at every level. Although these women are at the top of their fields, they still had to struggle to be seen as equally competent (if not better!) candidates for the astronaut program as their male colleagues. Their inspiring journey sparked great conversation about the current state of women in STEM, highlighting how far we’ve come and how far we still have to go.
